On my 2nd time around I realized that every time I enter the castle, in order to leave I must see the armsmaster every time. This is obviously a bug, so I am letting you know.

You need to carry the bandit brassard with you each time, or you need to visit armsmaster to get a new one. Its not a bug, except that you can bank the brassard and keep getting more.
