I have killed the guardians of the grove but it still won't let me move past those squares. Is that a bug?

Hello Griswold,
there are many Guardians of the grove in the game, but if you are referring to the ones that are in the forest map, yes, this is a bug that will be fixed with the next version of the game. But you don't miss anything here because this path is reserved for travelling with the Roadwardens - it will just take you back to the castle ruins.
