Then I realized how much this game forces you to make a balanced party haha. The idea did sound fun though, but with no other group hitting skills other than those of mages.... and hearing of the rather large sizes of mobs you can fight at a time, i sadly realize it to be impossible. :D Darn you you all mighty smiter!
I am still very early in the main quest, having just completed the Burial Mound. I have three mages and couldn't imagine even going through the Burial Mound without them--20 Spiritual Guardians and 20 Clansmen would not have been possible with fighters alone. Nice thought thought-- I often tried to have "themed" parties in D&D (paladins and clerics only or rangers and druids only, or rogues only). How about MAGES ONLY (I pity the front four)!
I just entered the are directly following Annsharbour and my mages have roughly 150 more HPs than my front line characters and almost double their AC as well! I fought a battle with 80 individual baddies. There's pretty much no way I'd roll a party in this game without at least 2 mages. Combat would take something like up to 20x longer. And that's just for some of the incidental fights! And that's assuming you were even carrying enough healing potions with you! An exercise in futility, for sure.
