I'm not the sharpest rocket on the Christmas tree,
but why are scimitar swords worth so much?
I'm guessing runes or jewels?

Great scimitars are the largest sword with the most damage of the general weapon categories, slightly better than a great sword, plus extra costs in increasing order for bronze, iron, steel, andur steel, of forgus etc. metals used. Runed weapons have specials values if found/ made in game, of zero value if YOU have it runed (which is strange I know). Some special items are un-rune-able for game design reasons I think.
That's how I recall/understand it all anyway...
