I used to play a game on the Macintosh (System 9, doesn't work under OSX) called Realmz by a company called Fantasoft. They're long gone now and the guy who was trying to port it to OSX gave up because of all the tangled licenses of the music and graphics.

It was interesting because it was map based -- in that you moved your characters around on a map during a combat and position mattered. But it was still a party based RPG with all the same party management and party leveling and increasingly difficult monsters. And it had quite a following and LOTS of extra scenarios you could bring your old characters in on. He made his money by constantly publishing those new scenarios with new maps and creatures and adventures. Kind of like DLC in Oblivion. You may not be able to find a machine to actually play it, but you can probably find pictures of it (I have a bunch of printed stuff on it too) and just looking at those might give you ideas.

I liked the visual aspects of the game and the ability to bring my old characters on new adventures. And I liked that it ran on the Mac which isn't all that common with good games.

Hey there :-)

Thank you for pointing me into this.
Well - if I could just clone myself, I would gladly give you one new map with quests per week ;-)

Sadly, I am still on my own in this matter, and because my spare time is limited (ask my girl-friend), I don't have much time for getting everything done.

But I will try!
Regards

Realmz by Fantasoft was awesome, as was their Escape from the Pit series. LOVED THEM!! I think, Mario, that we need to help make you rich so you can make it happen.  :)

I wonder if smaller DLC like modules might make Mario that money? I can't even remember the number of Realmz modules I bought over the years. I loved that big blue two-handed sword with the serated blade.
