Hi everyone,
I completed the main quest that was available in 2012 and then took a break, which turned out to be a long break. Time now allows a return but I’m not sure where or how to start. I know a lot of things have been added/expanded in these years so any advice is welcome. Can I just reload the last save game and carry on as if nothing has changed?

I doubt that the save game will still load, sorry for that ;-)
But as someone who played through the game several times, I would recommend to just start over.
It won't take that much time to get to Maruziel again - and after that the expansion will surely give you some more challenges.

I agree with icetear -- just start over. It won't take very long and it'll get you back into the story of the game better than just leaping back in after a long time away.
Plus it'll give you a chance to rethink your party composition. There have been changes, but I think the only major one was to the monk class, which got a significant upgrade while you were away.
the save games still load but it’s true I kinda feel lost on where next to go and only vaguely remember what I did to get here so starting fresh probably is the best option. That said I’m not so sure it’ll be quick to get back to the same stage, I remember it took me ages, I’m not one to leave any square unvisited :)
