FORUM: Gossip - The rusty dagger tavern

It's rare to come across RPGs on the App Store with the purity of purpose that Silversword has. I'm in love with the depth of its mechanics. I am of the generation that would've had the chance to enjoy the original Bard's Tale when it was new, and passed up the chance. My old Apple IIGS had a Dungeon Master, so I wasn't totally unfamiliar with the premise, but I spent most of the time playing Ultima Exodus, so there was still a steep learning curve. I'm glad there was. Never compromise. You've got an untapped niche of RPG goodness on your hands here, and if you stick to your guns, you'll always get my money.

There aren't many things in the "what I'd do differently" list. It's probably not even a list. Actually, all I can think of is the player art. You ostensibly had a limited art budget and therefore couldn't get a full set of race-class-gender pairings, so you only bought gender-class. I'd have opted for race-gender. A dwarf-male face can have any job, dressed casually. As it stands, it'd be a difficult argument claiming a match for most of the race options. They all look human. A small suggestion.

I take back what I said about character portraits. I've started what amounts to a Bard's Tale marathon, running through 1-3, the PS2 spinoff & Silversword. Never played the originals before, but now I see you were just following tradition. Tales of the Unknown had the same nonrelated character portraits.

Heya,

I am happy that you enjoy the game nonetheless :-)

Kind regards
Mario
