I have made it to the 2nd part of the inferno area with the lava, but my spell casters points are low after clearing out the first part - so I get destroyed by the lava and can't exit the level to rest. Is there an exit anywhere round here? I tried going back down a level but the secret door into the 2nd part is blocked...
So i'm planning to go back to a slightly earlier save game and go back and recharge before the 2nd part and see if i can find some harmonic gems to stock up on.
I found a few in the early stages of the game, but frittered them away on the assumption, there would be more dropped/found later. Unfortunately i haven't found any since, so I don't have any. Can someone point me to a shop, or an area of the map where they can be found?

IIRC, every new conjurer comes with a harmonic gem. So, if you just go to one of the campfires you can create a bunch, and have them trade the gems to your party.
