FORUM: Feature Requests

Two little things that came to my mind while I was playing this morning:

  • Could you change the font colour for the party roster when a shield spell is active, so that it doesn't mask the colour change when a character has gained enough experience to level up? Sure, there are messages like "Do you see the smile on Rogar's face" etc., but that can be missed sometimes. On the other hand, an active shield spell is denoted by an icon, so it seems slightly redundant to also denote it with a changed font colour.
  • Compared to magic users, a Paladin has even more problems replenishing spell points. She can't use Harmonic Gems or Roscoe's services, so all that remains is walking around in daylight or having a drink at the tavern. How about adding a service to some of the Sodar shrines, allowing Paladins to pray there and have their divine energies recharged (for a suitable donation, of course)? That would be a bit more in character than buying drinks at the tavern ;)
  • Having said that, I appreciate your concerns about not making the game too easy. The original Bard's Tale games were quite difficult, and so far you've done a great job improving usability while still keeping the "genuine" feeling. I spent an enjoyable couple of hours this morning figuring out the riddle in the Druid's Temple, it really felt like back in the old days :)

    Hi Nimue,

I will add a different indication in the future. Perhaps a transparent + symbol above the slot number, if someone is eligible for a new level.

As for the Paladin... drinking in a tavern lets time pass as it would when using a resting place (later in the game). And this passing of time brings back the spell points (not the drink ;-)). You are right, praying at a temple would make sense, I will think about this.
But: Giving the paladin another means of filling up his spell points would break the balance, because he is already at the edge of being overpowered (you know, shield and bless lasts indefinitely, and the healing capabilites are very powerful). Nonetheless, I will keep your suggestion in mind.

    Regards
    Mario

I see your point, the permanent shield/bless spells are indeed powerful. I never use the healing spell though, since my magic users can do better - the only exception being Sodar's Recall, which comes in very handy in dungeons. But with a spellpoint maximum of (currently) 96, this is a once-per-dungeoncrawl feature, which is perfectly fine. Like I wrote above, I don't want the game to become too easy, so if my Paladin has moral concerns about spending too much time in the tavern, I'll use the nearby safe resting place instead ;)

Go to the fountain in the Ruins and it will max out all of your characters Spell Points (including your Paladin). Everytime I go back to the Ruin Camp to level I go there...

Yes, I know, but it's an awfully long hike from the swamps back to the ruin camp :)

You can also go to the "island" in Loch (whatever) and when you rest there for 1 hours, 8 hours, a day, it too will also replinish all of your hit points and spell points. =)
