Does the critical bonus translate to critical damage hits, or is it purely execution hits?

If the latter, does the Barbarian's bonus to critical apply to any class or only Hunter and Rogue?

I'm starting a new game to give the monk a chance, and considering their numerous attacks at higher levels, I thought maybe a Barbarian with improved criticals might be a viable choice.

I made the same mistake my first time through, choosing a barbarian assuming he would get critical hit capability. I was disappointed to see I was wrong, but it worked out fine.
