FORUM: Gossip - The rusty dagger tavern

I'm hoping there's only one dungeon like this one. I don't know if I have any more left in me. Just finished it, and I don't care what the monsters drop, I'm never going back. Those darkness squares, shudder>.

Time for some nice wholesome grinding in Old Bonehouse or something. Then I need to find some graves to desecrate or some such. Extract their ghost juice for a necromancer, sounds like what a hero would do.

It's been many years since I first started this game, but I think I'm approaching the endgame. The second endgame, I mean. There aren't many games that keep calling me back after such a long time, congrats and thanks Mario!

Several of icetear’s maps were masterpieces: inferno, Silver Mountains Top, Castillo Artonsa, etc. But Miners Deep was the toughest. Like you, I stumbled through and never went back. :o

If you liked the dark squares, wait till Lair of Morthammr! I have an unmapped area in the middle just marked “Death Trap.” Like the Miners Deep dark squares but Not even bard songs work. Fortunately you don’t need to go through it to reach your the objective. It’s just there to wipe out unwary adventurers.

My problem with the darknes squares was the mana drain, honestly. It just kept me from actually playing the game. I probably would have rage quit the entire game if I hadn't had Alchemy on my Paladin with several hundred of each Alchemy ingredient stocked up to cast Fireflies. Draining several hundred mana in a single step doesn't feel challenging, it just feels punishing, at least to me.

But wow was I glad to get it done with, and level 5 actually felt like a challenge I could figure out through exploration, rather than a bunch of punishing obstacles designed to prevent me from exploring. I'm pretty sure that's the puzzle I'm going to remember from the expansion, sort of like how I remember the colored roses and the walls that ate spells from Bard's Tale 3.
