I went back to Castle Artonsa after completing the game and got challenged by a Vampire Lord demanding a shard. <br/>
He was an easy kill, and for loot I got a shadow key.  Since I've completed the game I am sure this isn't story critical, and I don't see any posts for this so either it's so obvious I am blinding missing it, or this is something unknown?  <br/>

Anyone know what the shadow key opens?

The shadow key will open some doors with chests in Castilla Artonsa.<br/>
Not important for the storyline indeed ;-)<br/>
