I face a wall and cast the spell and try to move through it, but it just says 'ouch!'. I don't know if I'm doing this right, and I've tried in many places. How does this spell work?

It seems to be just "some" walls.  Usually I'll save before I try, because it seems shatterproof walls are much more common than I remember them in Bard's Tale.  It's useful when it works, though.

I recall a dungeon level that starts with a large rectangular room with every door leaving to a very tough fights against 20+ undead warrior types.  I managed to breach a wall and complete the level without doing these fights.  It's a bit of "this place really should have breachable walls" and then poking around.

Some have said they used Shatter Walls to avoid the fight in front of the hidden door on the second level of the Burial Mound. I have used it in the 24th of November area to leave it before midnight. The shattered wall actually disappears for a minute and you can walk through it.
