The manual says dex plays an important role in determining initiative in combat. Is this also true for maic users? If so, can we conclude that dex is actually quite important for magic users too - as getting off a spell early can be critical in determining the outcome of combat...?<br/><br />

Yes, dexterity gives a bonus on initiative.<br/><br />
All actions depend on initiative, including spellcasting.<br/><br />

yes, in original BT, was crucial to have spell caster cat as soon as possible. True that spellcasters change more classes so more stat update. At the end they will have almost same hp than palladin, with better stats :-)<br />
